BHT Christmas Mass

Its been awhile since my last post, for no reason in particular. A combination of two 7 day shifts in a row at work, doing early Christmas shopping, downloading /watching a lot of movies, my cat coming home after 5 months away, and my dog passing on.

One thing I look forward to yearly is drinking at Christmas time.

The plan was for Thursday night action at the BHT to enjoy pre Christmas mass with Revered Marv serving the holy draft to the massive congregation. But with my work scheduling it will be a tight fit. Scheduling at work could probably be done better by children from a third world country who can't read or write, nor speak english, and have a learning disability.

Downsizing

If there is one cause I will fight for in life, it is the right to have a proper sized burger.

Its no secret the size of fast food burgers have been decreasing over the years. I can remember when a Big Mac, was actually .... big.

Gradually over time, along with every other burger, they have become smaller and smaller. You go through the drive thru, get a bag so small, nothing can possibly be inside it. Inside there is a cardboard box(leaking grease because it should be a styrofoam container) with a patty half the size of a cd and about that thick. A whole head of lettuce stuffed in between the buns to make it appear big. There is more special sauce then meat. You can only assume all that dripping grease is from a spill they had inside, because your patties are dryer then the cardboard box it came in.

These days the only burgers I bother to order are the double quarter pounder at Mcdonalds and the Triple at Wendy's, which is really the only real burger on the market out of the big fast food chains in Canada --- and I have no problem travelling 80km's to Bathurst to get it.

They even give the option of the "not on the menu item" a 4 patty grand slam. More burger then most people know what to do with. It's sad when going to get a burger you have to ask for the "not advertised item" like your a shady character at the local taxi stand looking for the "not advertised liquor and smokes"

Fast Forward: Thankfully burger enthusiasts worldwide have been making their own giant burger creations, such as this, this, and those found here. BK has come out with the stacker series, 2, 3, or 4 patties, lots of cheese, a layer of bacon. No veggies. The Quad Stacker is now the only fast food burger I will eat.

If I didn't know better I'd think I was lost in Miramichi.

I had a 3 day weekend, which is like winning the lotto where I work.

I rested up Friday, and left for Fredericton in the evening. The drive was like watching a 4 year old try to color, as the old guy in front of me had a hard time keeping his car between the lines.

Once there, I had supper with Kelly, then we went to get some films at Jumbo. I passed by D. Savoy, without recognizing him or vice versa. I guess people don't look the same when you aren't laying on a floor being sick for hours and then have them rush you to the bus stop asap so your not sick in their car.

3 movies were picked up, sadly we didn't rent "Whore 2" that Vettel pulled out of no where from a shelf. He then put on an excellent demonstration of the dvd scratch repair machine(I will have to inquire on the official name of the machine). It was pretty intense as he had to apply compound # 2 and then compound # 1(which had clear bold instructions to use after compound #2) on the dvd. Compound W was not around.

After that Kelly & I retired for some film watching. The morning was suppose to be a market visit, but as always we went back to sleep until almost noon. I don't think we will ever make it to the market.

Kelly's father came down on his motorcycle for the day, and we headed to lunch with him. I was not expecting the fleet of bikes in the drive way though when I went outside, and the feeling of walking into a chinese restaurant full of actual authentic chinese speaking people with a bunch of bikers in their leather gear, is a bit of a strange feeling, almost like you have to be on edge for a sudden gang war.

A waiter came up to get some plates and told me to keep my fork and knife for later, but to myself and two others it sounded like "fuck you later." I wouldn't have known what he said if he hadn't been pushing the fork/knife back my way.

A short mall visit was made, then it was back to Kelly's for stir fry supper. Vettel came over to watch National Lampoons Blackballs, I will only say that it was probably the worst movie I have ever seen.

After supper, it was time for a 9 ball rematch at Racks. Close at times, but I was clearly out played by vettel who took back the title.

A bit later at the liquor store line up I heard someone comment, "If I didn't know better I'd think I was lost in Miramichi."

The main event of the night was a FPT poker event at Vettels. Kelly looked like a shark after saying she didn't know how to play and a few moments of explanation, she jetted off to an early lead, but eventually was the first out.

I would later become the second out as I became restless. Eventually Kyla, Vettel & Snaggle finished 1,2,3.

During the final hands Kelly stole my nose in the living room and Snaggle did play by play of me trying to get it back, I took a bite to the hand, but eventually after taking her to the floor, I got it back.

Afterwards there was a trip to Wendy's, which I will not speak of.

Kelly & I then watched SAW and fell asleep. Sunday featured breakfast, featuring appearances by Snaggle & Kyla, and then a near hydroplane filled drive home thanks to the great roads.

Violently Vomiting

The main event of the weekend was Saturday night, and although Marv wasn't at the Blackhorse with a Turkey dinner cooking out back, it was a pretty solid night.

Things got under way at my house with Kelly & I, then quickly moved to Paiges, then onto the BHT. The Blackhorse was pretty full, probably the largest crowd I've seen there since last Christmas.

After a few hours of classic BHT action, we headed to the OH, quickly made it upstairs, where I saw pretty much everyone I hadn't seen over the summer in the span of about 5 minutes on the way to/in the bathroom. For the first time since sometime last year I didn't have to say, "who are these people and where have they come from?" about the crowd.

Snaggle & Kyla were able to grab a corner scruples booth and once Kelly was done in a long bar line up, we would remain in the booth for the duration. 4 burgers were grabbed on the way out, and Kelly and I headed home.

I'm not sure how long after we got home, but it was not right away, as I began to watch some of the F1 race, I had to head for the bathroom. I thought it was a little strange being sick from only 5 rum & cola.

After all there was no Alexander Keiths free give away like in Moncton a few years ago, no Platinum Blonde concert where I tried to drink beer for beer with Vettel(I'm allergic to beer ingredients I later came to finding out), or M.Foran quadruple mixed vodka/sprite drinks at an after party where he just finished putting a cat in a full nelson, during the night like past times when I've ended up sick.

I went to bed and thought blame must fall on the girlie milk drink I had at Paiges while watching the hockey game.

I woke up Sunday morning fine, for about a half hour, and spent the rest of the day hardly being able to move without violently vomiting. This continued through the night.
Monday was an obvious sick day from work, mainly spent sleeping, and consuming an entire stir fry by myself, then some television was viewed with Kelly.

I returned to work today, sadly I only got a few rounds of tetris in before things got busy.

Dr. Marv

I had a 3 day weekend, with things getting under way Thursday evening at Vettel's for some poker. My cold prevented me from taking part in, but I did get to see some good photos B.Savoy has of the old school Blackhorse.

Speaking of the Blackhorse, that was the next stop to see Dr. Marv at the BHT Clinic for a prescription to cure my cold.
Vettel & I played our regular pool challenge, and later played some 9 ball. I made remarkable comebacks in both tournaments, to be the victor. I wonder what our lifetime record is?
We were hoping on some BHT poker, but some others beat us to the chips, the crowd being what I will refer to as a mix of misfits and annoyances, we made an early exit.

Saturday there was an awkward moment at Blockbuster when the worker tried to sell me on the rewards membership. I know I don't want it. But the question is, how far do you let him go in his sales pitch? I let the guy almost finish, which was probably a good 2 minutes, and then told him, "I don't rent movies that much." to which he made a quick finish of the transaction and I believe almost cried.

Today was an early rise to breakfast with Chris, Julie and Amanda, then off to Walmart and the mall. Some DQ was picked up for supper, and Kelly is gone back to Fredericton

After 5 times, nothing comes out.

My birthday weekend got off to a start around 6pm Friday, when I left for Fredericton. The drive was pretty interesting, with a mix of rain showers/blinding sun/kids running on the highway. Thankfully no one was hurt.

Friday Night we headed to Jimmy's for what was suppose to be droping off liqour. (That Kelly ended up forgetting/locking in her apartment with no key to get back in.)

At Jimmy's there was one 'Jimmy Trick' viewed, and we all learned that "After 5 times, nothing comes out."
The highlight was Oliver heading for the door and taking a nasty spill.

To finish the night off, a grocery store trip was taken, then we showed up a couple of minutes before closing to see Andrew at Jumbo. This led to grabbing some Subway and I attended the D Savoy residence for some race viewing and Xbox action till about 3am.

After a lot of sleep Saturday, I woke up to a birthday breakfast from Kelly, along with several gifts. Later on a trip was taken to Staples were I purchased a digital camera from Snaggle. After that there was some supper at Ponderosa with Kelly & Steven, which seems to get worse food each time I go there. Then a short mall visit.

Saturday night was the main event; a get together at Kelly's, followed by Sweetwaters/Rodeo.

There were some games played, including Charades. Snaggle ended up acting everything out and my plan of putting down "Perley T." was foiled before the game started. But there were still a lot of good local references I won't get into for fear of lawsuit if mentioned, although all references were based on true factual events.

Mario kart and a few old school video games were also on the menu. There were no Jimmy tricks on this night.

The highlights were Snaggle doing mixed shots of beer and boones, ten of them in total, plus the plate full of spillage from them, and a bit of styrofoam. I also recall a recreation of Huricane Katrina/New Orleans was made on the plate, with the spilled liquor, pieces of debris, and pepper.
Shortly after that Oliver spawned a random game of balloon volleyball, at one point hanging off his chair, held on only by his hoodie, as it was caught on the chairs back. At times, 2 balloons, one odd shaped, one regular, were put into play, making for intense action.

We eventually made our way downtown, not much for highlights, although I think we saw a midget when we left S/R. After that there was an almost fight over a taxi, then a guy approaching asking where the 5-0 station is so he could bail his friend out.

During the cab ride home, Kelly made reference to the Princess Diana crash as we passed through an underpass and a flash from a camera went off from someone standing on the side of the road. Thankfully we did not crash, although I do fear paparazzi follow me sometimes.

Employee of the month

I some how was nominated by my superiors/won employee of the month and pocketed $150 extra this week.

How hard is it to tell the difference between a phone cord, ethernet cable & power adapter. Pretty hard it seems.

Everyday at work, we run into trouble when asking people to unplug one of the above mentioned cords. I think even homeless people in war torn countries know what a phone cord looks like. Its usually a pretty safe bet the power cord is the one plugged into the power outlet. That leaves one cord left, it must be the ethernet cord. People seem to be pretty good figuring out the phone cord/ethernet cord, but are stunned about the power cord.

I used to be subtle pointing it out, but have given up on that.
"It's the cord that plugs into your power outlet, it has a big adapter at the end of it, power cord."

There ain't nothing like this in Fredericton!

I had 4 of the last 5 days off work, making for a good unexpected long weekend.

Thursday featured a trip to Fredericton while Kelly picked out an apartment. The highlight being a chinese buffet visit that brought back memories of my triumphant 51 chicken ball night at a small chinese restaurant in Ottawa about 10 years ago, that had a good xxx shop across the road.

Saturday was my reunion with Captain Morgan.
I joined Kelly for a wedding reception at the rec centre, scoring a pet fish , and seeing a few people who I hadn't seen in awhile, one in about 7 years. Thankfully he didn't recognize me.

The highlight was seeing a real life Viagra commercial; a 70+ year old guy who went to the dance floor several times, with different ladies. And a kid who kept yelling at the band, "Do you take requests?" while performing a varity of air instruments.

Kelly and I left there, picked up Paige, dropped my car off at home, and walked to the BHT. It was with incident, as Paige got attacked by a Junebug on the way, causing the comment, "that's the most fun I've seen all night." from some guys moving furniture.

Once at the BHT, we joined Snaggle, DT, Ben, Cmac, Kyla and later on a pretty intoxicated Oliver. It was a classic draft challenge between DT & Snaggle. I only confused Marv once during the night when ordering a weird drink combination for Kelly and I that caused him some trouble adding up the price for it. My goal of tempting someone to open the cupboard below the big screen tv was almost realized as I had snaggle interested in finding out what is hiding under there.

Kelly, Paige and I left for a visit to the OH, which was rather disappointing --mostly newbies and their parents. One rum & cola was consumed, we over heard a guy stand at the edge of the dance floor and yell, "There ain't nothing like this in Fredericton!" and then we headed back the the BHT.

Upon arrival I recall Cmac asking if anyone could do the "Jimmy Tricks" which I thought sounded like some leud act, but is really just some hand and arm bending tricks.
I was invited into a poker game a couple of times during the night, but resisted and I think my decision was good as I recall a chinese guy suddenly appearing, eyeing the poker game, and then getting dealt in. I'm sure he is a pro or something, how often do you see a chinese guy in the BHT? It wasn't soon after he started in the game that B.Prebble was out and pulled a "man in the chair" on the vlt's. Kelly cashed out with a small winning from the vlt's.

We left there around 2, and headed home. I was up in time to take Kelly to the other side of the river and back home for the F1 race. Some Chinese food was consumed later in the day, with some TPB's and poker to finish off the night.

2005-05-07

Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

The last few days have been classic at work.

Starting off with one customer telling me, "Everything but the godd*mn chair I'm sitting in is new."

Later on another customer had an email subject, "Beer & Tities" I was tempted to open it but I don't like beer.

The most enjoyable moment was after a customer told me his problem, I told him what to do to fix it, he said, "Sorry big guy but I hate to tell you but I don't think thats the problem." A few minutes later after I pretty much dared him, he did what I suggested and then said, "Yeah, ok it's working now, sorry."

I purchased a new copy of George Carlin's book, "When Will Jesus Bring The Pork Chops" for about $10can on ebay. Well worth the wait, instead of buying it anywhere else for $40.

Under the B ....

Last Saturday saw a BHT/OH adventure with Andrew, the first one in awhile, after a string of successfull random intoxicated adventures in previous years.

Things started off pretty calm at the Blackhorse shortly after 9 with some rum and cola consumption on my part while Andrew had servings of draft. The usual best of pool challenge was had, I came out on the losing end of it from what I remember, then watched some Nascar on the big screen.

Shortly after we were dealt into a poker game that featured some people we went to school with and a few local celebs including a former radio host and tv bingo caller.

On the way to the OHouse we had our usual game of porn alphabet
(From a to z both having to name a pornstar or site starting with the letter)

After arriving we met up with Kelly, there was some mingling with people, more liquor consumed, and then left for a classic random Subway visit, having a Bubbles impersonator in the line. Along the way Kelly was able to get a diss in on M.Foran from an earlier comment he made.

We made our way to Paiges where it appeared there was some sort of after event but we didn't stay long, returning to my place around 4am.

3 and a half hours later I woke up, drove Kelly to work, then returned home to watch the F1 race, later finishing the weekend off in style over a plate of Kdinner and the Trailer Park Boys.

The work week has been pretty straight forward, I had an interview at the 5-0 station Wednesday night that included a good porn reference, it seems like every where I go the 'p' follows me.

I'm leaving on a jet plane tomorrow, don't know when I'll be back.

The weekend started off with working Saturday morning from 6 till 3 with intentions of heading to Moncton for the Newfies last night of his week long trip back to the good life. Kelly and I departed from home around 630 in the evening, arriving in Moncton around 8. We grabbed a stay at the EconoLodge, which I would give 5 out of 5 stars. It has everything you could want; its not a dump, has a cheap rate, clean room with big tv, good staff, $1.50 beer coupons for its bar. Other highlights were over hearing the people in the next room go at it, and I think my favorite part was the long walk down along the side of the motel and up a flight of stairs to get ice. It was a classic scary movie scene, and when going up the stairs a conversation was over heard by two guys that contained the words, "What is your warrant for?", "clean the computers hard drive", and the chi was mentioned.

Kelly and I stopped off for some supper at Mikes, then at the L store. I always enjoy going to liquor stores that require staff to restock the shelves at 930pm because stock is going so quick. We also stopped off to see Kelly's friend Mary at Ayers, the best convenience store ever, they feature 3 hot dogs for 99cents, and the best sandwiches around for under $2, made fresh, usually by what appear to be midgets. It was then time for pre intoxication at the motel, skipping Serge's pre gathering, but I think that was worth while when I called to advise them of that and having the newfie quote an Elton John song, "Fuck Mark, I'm leaving on a jet plane tomorrow, don't know when I'll be back."

Around 12, after having 2 taxis stolen from us by other guests at the motel, we finally got one to the o2, where Kelly had to remove her coat for fear of weapons. I don't have a problem with requiring people to remove vests and jackets, but when its a tight coat that is practically a shirt, what the fuck do they think she is hiding? a sheet of loose leaf maybe? to give people paper cuts? It was a pretty good crowd, including some people from home, and some others from mcton who I still recognize even though its been a few years since living there. We met up with my former classmates, highlights including stories of the newfies rough experience the night before and serge's comments about it and other things. It was a classic night of laughing at the two of them non stop. Back to the motel around 2, after awhile we settled down to sleep, but I flipped through the channels and had perfect timing for the green lights of the F1 race. I fell asleep halfway through it, woke up the next morning to the rebroadcast, 4 laps ahead of where I fell asleep at. Too bad my pick6 picks for the event went in the shitter, thankfully I wasn't alone.

Sunday featured some taco bell and a short mall trip, then back home around 330.

Heart Attack Breakfast

It's been a rather busy week, I just finished up 8 shifts in a row at work, 6 were training though so it wasn't too bad.

Last Saturday featured a 6am shift, some brief afternoon napping, a pre gathering here at my place with Kelly, Chris, Julie and Amanda, followed by some OH action, which went well, but it was one of the nights when the allstar local celebrities weren't out, a bunch of imports from the outskirts of town were in their place, which made for a slack night.

Sunday I had the heart attack breakfast special, 3 cheeseburgers and a big mac as soon as Mcd's made the switch from serving breakfast to serving lunch, but don't recall what I did the rest of the day and Monday was back to work.

The week was pretty smooth, training at work, and spending time with Kelly when we had free time in our schedules. I also had the chance to stop by 5-0 headquarters for an hour visit during a night this week, it was pretty much like I haven't left, both atmosphere wise and conversation with the members of the platoon I was assigned to, although I haven't been there in a year and a half.
